Audi RS3/TTRS ECU Tuning

July 9, 2019 /Posted byBen / 10616

We had the absolute privilege of recently tuning this lovely 8S TTRS. There isn’t too many around so we got extremely excited to work on it and get the best results possible.

Do you want the best ECU tune for your 8V RS3 Facelift or 8S TTRS? Look no further than having a custom ECU remap for your vehicle. We custom remap the ECU for the best increase in performance for your 2.5 TFSI engine.

The new RS3 Facelift or TTRS comes from the factory with an amazing 294kw and 480Nm of Torque measured at the engine. This is important to keep in mind because all the figures we share below are measured at the wheels. We often have people ask why the figures are so low compared to the factory figures. Basically all Dyno’s in Australia measure power output at the wheels, its an accurate and easy way of measuring power output. The factory 294kw is measured at the flywheel of the engine, when running it on the Dyno and measuring at the wheels we all of a sudden have a bunch of drivertrain components between the engine flywheel and wheels. So we start with 294kw, this power is then transferred through the gearbox, AWD system, driveshafts/propshafts, rear differentials and the wheels. In this case we ended up with a reading of 245kw at the wheels so we have an approximate drivetrain loss of 20%.

Doing a Stage 1 ECU tune on your Audi RS3 or TTRS is a great way to increase performance of the vehicle without using an additional hardware modifications. For this customers TTRS we start by strapping it down to the Dyno where it made a healthy 245kw at all 4 wheels and 411Nm of torque at the wheels on the factory software. We measure hundreds of bits of data from the engine to ensure the engine is running as expected and is ready for us to start increasing power.

We then started the RS3/TTRS Remap. Because this is not an off the shelf flash tune where you what you’re given is what you get, instead we’re able to monitor all aspects of the engine live and use this data to tailor the tune specifically to the engines DNA. This gives us the confidence that the engine can run safely at the increased performance levels. After our ECU Calibration peak power increased to 285kw at all for wheels with up to a massive 60kw gain through the mid range. Torque increased to 553Nm at the wheels. That’s a 34% increase in Torque! ðŸ¤¤

Working backwards from our earlier paragraph regarding power figures. If we add 20% to our end result of 285kw we can assume that the new engine power output is approximately 342kw which is a 48kw gain and up to 72kw increase through the mid range which is really where you feel the difference. The mid range is after all the best driving area. There are many factors that come into play when measuring power and because we cant accurately measure the power at the engine flywheel without an engine dyno these conversions are just an approximate. The important thing is to look at the factory vs Stage 1 results pictured below.

But wait, what is missing from the new RS3/TTRS? Crackle mapping that the Pre Facelift got. This TTRS now has pre facelift style crackle mapping in Dynamic/Sport or Sport/Manual mode giving it that aggressive exhaust note loved by many. Especially the ladies ðŸ˜‰

Our customer has plans for Stage 2 and the magical e85 so watch the space for some impressive figures and 1/4 mile times
